Santa Maria Joint Union High School District and the teachers union have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract. The two sides agreed in principle late last month. The contract was ratified by the union members a few days later. Pay raises were at the center of negotiations. District officials were offering a raising in the 2 percent range, while the union wanted a 3.7 percent raise. The new deal is expected to be approved at next months board meeting.
