The City of Arroyo Grande is considering eliminating its involvement with the Five Cities Fire Authority. City officials say Arroyo Grande carries a majority of the cost of keeping the Fire Authority running. A recent report by the city manager recommended Arroyo Grande leave the joint fire department. Chief Lieberman told council members that it would be a complex and costly procedure to dissolve the department, and would be taking a step backward. The Council voted to continue the discussion at a later date.
