A four-hour long budget workshop in Lompoc failed to shine any light on a solution to the city’s ongoing budget woes. City council members did agree that they needed a united approach to face possible staff reductions. Those cuts could come from the city’s fire and police departments. Officials from both departments presented a dire future for public safety if they were to cut already short-staffed departments. If Lompoc made the proposed cuts from yesterdays meeting, they would lose 6 police officers, three firefighters, close the library on Mondays and possibly lose a number of playgrounds.
