The City of Santa Maria is inviting residents to a public workshop about the 2020 Census today at the Public Library. The workshop is designed to inform residents of the importance of taking part in the national survey. The Census helps determine how much state and federal money Santa Maria could receive over the next ten years. Some immigrant rights advocates worry that a proposed question about legal status could deter undocumented families from participating in the survey. Today’s workshop starts at noon at Sherpa Hall with a second workshop scheduled for next Wednesday.
