State Rent Control Bill Working Through State Capitol

A bill that would put a cap on rent increases while adding provisions for evicting residents is making its way through the State Capitol. lawmakers say AB 1482’s goal is trying to help protect tenants. According to KSBY, The author of AB 1482 says roughly half of all California renters are “rent burdened”, making a choice between paying rent of basic necessities. The bill would limit rent increases to no more than seven percent plus inflation. It would also create a “just cause” rule when it comes to evictions. Those opposed to the bill say it could actually cause rents to spike and shrink the housing market.
