A plea deal has helped a local real estate developer dodge a prison sentence. Ryan Petetit pleaded no contest to five felonies related to a 2015 domestic violence incident where he allegedly choked his then-girlfriend and smashed her head through a bathroom window during a violent and drunken outburst. Petetit, who now lives in Los Angeles with a new, legally changed name, was sentenced to the maximum sentence in state prison. But that sentence was stayed pending successful completion of five years formal probation. He will also have to spend at least 270 days in San Luis Obispo County Jail.
