One of the most popular crops on the Central Coast could soon see some changes. Most of the world’s strawberry’s come from California. Thanks to selective strawberry breeding, we could see as many as five new varieties by this fall. U.C. Davis announced earlier this week that the U.S.D. A. has recognized the new berry varieties that are expected to cut costs for farmers and improve environmental sustainability. Growers say selective berry breeding cuts down on on the use of synthetic chemicals.
