Disciplinary action has been handed down for San Luis Obispo’s Police chief who left her personal firearm in a restroom. An investigation into the incident determined Chief Deanna Cantrell inadvertently violated two city policies when she left her gun in the bathroom of a local restaurant. Her punishment, issued by City Manager Derek Johnson, a one-time pay reduction of about $1,600, firearm safety training and a required discussion with all members of the city’s police department. The person who found and, eventually, returned the gun to authorities will not face any charges.
