40th Anniversary Of Deadliest SLO County Wildfire

Yesterday marked the 40th anniversary of the deadliest wildfire in San Luis Obispo County History. Four CDF Firefighters from Nipomo were on the line of the Spanish Fire in 1979 when fire conditions quickly changed, and the firefighters were surrounded by flames. Friends and fellow firefighters talked about the men who lost their lives that day. Yesterday’s ceremony was held at the Spanish Ranch memorial, located at the entrance of Chimineas Ranch Rd. off Highway 166. 40 years later Cal Fire officials say Captain Ed Marty, Scott Cox, Ronald Lorant, and Steve Manley. will never be forgotten.
