Forest Clean Up Efforts May Have Gone Too Far In Cambria

An effort to cut down on potential fire danger in one Central Coast community has some locals concerned that the cleanup may have gone too far. Crews in the Cambria area have been clearing overgrowth, weeds, invasive plants and wood from fallen and dead trees. Some fear too much is being removed from the forest floor, that erosion could result during the rainy season. According to the Tribune, Cambria is home to a rare stand of native Monterey pines, one of three on the U.S. mainland and five in the world. Many of those trees are at or near the end of their lifespan.
