Universities Doing Away With Standardized Tesing

The SATs and ACTs may be a thing of the past. Research has convinced UC Berkeley Chancellor Carol T. Christ that college entrance exams are unfair and strongly influenced by family income, parents’ education, and race. The Los Angeles Times reports that the UC and California State University systems are reassessing the use of standardized tests, and dozens of U.S. universities are moving away from relying on them. Over the last year, nearly 50 schools have made SAT and ACT scores optional, joining about 1,000 others that already made the change.
