Santa Maria is now the only city on the Central Coast to have a designated “safe place” for kids who are in danger. According to KSBY, staff members at the Abel Maldonado Youth Center, have undergone 8 to 12 hours of training in crisis intervention, comforting a child in need and contacting law enforcement. Officials say the safe place is another way for kids to know that the city cares about them and they want them to be safe in Santa Maria.
