Cunningham Introduces Bill To Close Transparency Loophole

Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham has introduced a bill that would allow public access to records regarding officer-involved sexual assaults. Cunningham says AB 1599 would effectively close a loophole in a current law that allows an officer to resign before an investigation is finished, keeping the records confidential. According to KSBY, the bill was inspired by the investigation into former Paso Robles Police Officer Christopher McGuire who was accused of sexually assaulting a woman. He resigned before the investigation was completed.
