Crews of workers have started converting the Cal Poly Rec Center into an alternative COVID-19 care facility. Once completed, the rec center would have 931 beds to care for patients with COVID-19. Officials say the Cal Poly site will help manage the flow of patients and prevent hospitals from being inundated by a potential wave of cases. The conversion should be completed by the middle of next week.
