The transformation of Cal Poly’s rec center is nearly complete. For the past week, crews have been working around the clock to turn the gym into an alternative care site for coronavirus patients in case area hospitals reach full capacity. Once the first stage is complete, it will be able to handle 165 patients. The facility is designed to take the pressure off the four major hospitals in the county in the event of a surge of coronavirus patients.
