Santa Maria police have arrested people who they believe were connected to illegal activity that happened following a protest on Sunday. Crowds began to gather in the area of Cook Street and Broadway as many of the peaceful protesters began to leave. Police said a fire was set in the street and an American flag was torn down at City Hall. According to the Santa Maria Police Department Facebook page acts of vandalism and looting also happened at the Town Center Mall. The investigation is ongoing. Santa Maria remains under a nightly curfew until next Monday.
