Felon Faces Jail Time For Firearms Sale

San Luis Obispo, CA -- San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's detectives following up on a tip from the Crime- Stoppers program arrested a coastal man for being a felon in possession of firearms and illegal sale/transfer of firearms.  Detectives made a buy of a weapon advertised for sale at the man's business.  Cash was exchanged and the man provided the detective with a firearm, bypassing the dealer’s record of sale (DROS).

The DROS is a state form identifying authorized dealers, if not completed it conceals the seller’s felony record that would have prohibited the sale and background check of the buyer.  Detectives seized several additional firearms and initial investigation shows prior sales from the business.  60-year-old Larry Thomas Preston of Cambria was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on felon in possession of a firearm.

If anyone who has purchased firearms from this individual should contact Detective Robert Burgeson at 781-4521.  Preston is free on $20,000 bail.
