DUI Wrong-way Driver Accused In Santa Maria Woman's Death

CHP investigators say a wrong-way driver is suspected of causing a crash that took the life of a Santa Maria woman over the weekend. It happened late Saturday night when 23-year-old Edgar Morales drove his car north in the southbound lanes of Thompson Avenue in Nipomo, slamming into an SUV driven by Maricela Marquez. Her passenger, 82-year-old Maria Medina died as a result of the crash. Morales was arrested at Marian Medical Center on suspicion of DUI.
