Northern California Wild Fires Turn Deadly

October 10th, 2017

Wind whipped wildfires continue to rip through much of Northern California and are proving to be deadly. Sonoma County's Tubbs Fire is blamed for seven deaths, and two people died in the Atlas Fire in Napa County. KTVU reports an elderly couple was killed when fire trapped them in their home on Atlas Peak Road. Cal Fire says one person has died in a wildfire burning in Mendocino County. There are more than 100 reports of missing-persons in Sonoma County. At last report there was little containment on many of the fires. California's fire chief says at least 1,700 homes and commercial buildings have been destroyed. He called the estimates of destroyed structures very conservative, adding that firefighters have focused on evacuating residents and saving lives rather than battling the blaze and protecting buildings.
