D.O.J. Investigation At S.L.O. County Jail

Inmate mental and medical healthcare at San Luis Obispo County Jail will be the focus of an independent investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. County officials say if deficiencies are found, the DOJ will provide technical assistance. According to KSBY, Since the death of inmate Andrew Holland, several changes have been made at the jail, including the hiring of a new Chief Medical Officer, contracting out medical and mental health services, and the pending opening of a mental health unit. Sheriff Ian Parkinson says his office welcomes the investigation and any help to improve areas identified by the DOJ.
