Foot Traffic around Santa Maria high School before and after school hours is becoming dangerous according to area residents. Some drivers say students who jaywalk across Stowell Road are becoming a problem. According to KSBY, School District officials talked to every student about traffic safety at the beginning of the school year during orientation. Santa Maria Police students will be held accountable if they are caught Jaywalking. A jaywalking fine carries a minimum fine of 197 dollars and 240 dollars for drivers failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
