Meals On Wheels Donations Surge

March 20th, 2017

Donations to Meals on Wheels spiked after media reports claiming President Trump proposed cutting funding to the service.

Donations surged to 50 times their daily rate last week after the Trump proposed eliminating the Community Development Block Grant program.

While the block grants fund only a small portion of Meals on Wheels' operations nationwide, some of the group's 5,000 local branches rely on the money to bring food to people.

A Meals on Wheels branch outside Detroit would lose one-third of its budget without the grants and a branch in San Jose would lose $100,000.
