Sheriff Parkinson Speaks To Immigration Group
December 5th, 2018
San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson told a group of immigrant allies that his office does not deport anyone, does not perform immigration sweeps and does not ask anyone about their immigration status. The comments came during yesterday's County Board of Supervisors meeting. According to the Tribune, before California initiated the "sanctuary state" law, the Sheriff’s Office released 87 inmates to ICE. Over the past year, that number has dropped to zero. Sheriff Parkinson says his concern is about how to build relations with communities, including those that have a distrust of law enforcement.
