Jury Awards 20 Million Dollars In 1996 Retired Police Dog Attack

It’s been five years since a retired police dog seriously injured a Grover Beach woman and killed a man trying to rescue her from the attack. A San Luis Obispo County jury has awarded more than 20 million dollars to 90-year-old Betty Long, and the family of David Fear, who died shortly after the dog attack in 2016. According to the Tribune, the jury found Exeter’s police department, former police Chief Clifton Bush, and police Lt. Brett Inglehart, were negligent in how they trained former officer Alex Geiger to care for his retired police K-9.
