PG&E has received federal funding to keep the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant running beyond 2025. 1.1 billion dollars comes from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Civil Nuclear Credit Program. The Diablo Canyon power plant was scheduled to be shut down by 2025, but California has been unable to find enough carbon-free electricty to replace the plant AND meet its clean energy goals.
