The U.S. Supreme Court will not be hearing a challenge to an offshore fracking ban in California federal waters. This week’s decision by the High Court is considered a victory for Santa Barbara County-based watchdog groups who want more environmental research. According to Noozhawk, Environmental Defense Center officials believe fracking threatens whales, otters and other animals in the Santa Barbara Channel. They are still concerned since the oil industry says the specialized methods of drilling are crucial.
