If you thought living on the Central Coast was expensive, you’d be right. According to a recent report by the National Association of Home Builders, San Luis Obispo County ranks among the top 10 of least affordable places to buy a home. Not even New York or Honolulu made the Top Ten. Out of the 237 metro areas in the report, San Luis Obispo ranked 7th least affordable in the country. Less than 14 percent of the homes on the market in the county were considered affordable for a median income family. According to the Tribune, the median family income last year was 80,600 dollars. Officials point out that jobs and income also play a part in the affordability equation.
