Students at a couple of Atascadero schools were prompted to shelter-in-place yesterday while police chased a suspected car thief. Officers were called out to a report of suspicious activity near Chalk Mountain Liquor yesterday afternoon. A man was seen removing a license plate from a pickup truck. Police spotted the truck. A short pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into a tree near Atascadero Middle school. School officials say, students at The Middle school and Atascadero Fine Arts Academy while police searched for the man. He was taken into custody a short time later.
