Two lawsuits filed on behalf of the Compton Unified School District, a group of students, and community groups – allege the University of California system is violating civil rights laws by making students take the SAT or ACT when applying to get in. The lawsuits claim the tests discriminate against minority, low income, and disabled students. There is no sign the system is going to drop the requirement but it is reviewing the use of standardized tests to figure out if certain students are at a disadvantage. But ACT and SAT officials say their tests accurately predict college performance.
