Cal Fire firefighters have the Avil Fire in Shell Beach 75 percent contained this morning. Officials say better mapping of the fire has scorched a total of 445 acres since it broke out Monday afternoon. Hundreds of homes were threatened, and families were evacuated. No homes were lost. no injuries have been reported. Fire crews plan to have the fire 100 percent contained by this evening and will remain on scene through the weekend. Meanwhile, the Drum Fire near Buellton is reported to be 100 percent contained. Investigations into the causes of both fires are ongoing.
