A Santa Maria resident has raised some concerns about the logo used by the city and Santa Maria Joint Union High School District. The resident says the use of a Christopher Columbus sailing ship is inappropriate due to the explorer’s “treatment of indigenous peoples in the Americas.” Both the City Council and school district say they plan to discuss the matter at upcoming meetings.
