The Santa Maria Police Department has announced that it will have more officers on patrol this Fourth of July looking for illegal fireworks. For the second year in a row, Santa Maria has canceled its public fireworks show. Between 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the Fourth of July is the only time safe and sane fireworks may be used within city limits. Anyone caught using any fireworks on other days is subject to a $1,000 fine.
