A San Luis Obispo Superior Court judge has denied a request by Paul Flores’s defense attorneys requesting a protective order against Kristin Smart’s family attorney. A protective order was issued in April, preventing everyone involved with the criminal case from speaking about the case in public. Smart’s family attorney James Murphy is representing the Smart family in a wrongful death civil suit that has been on hold since 2003. Flores’s attorneys claim any statements made by Murphy could taint a potential jury pool.
