A Nipomo man was arrested Friday following a fatal head-on crash near Avail Beach. CHP investigators say 31-year-old Patrick McDuffee was driving a Ford F-250 on San Luis Bay Drive at around 3 p.m. when he crossed into oncoming traffic. His truck collided with a Mercedes van driven by a 72-year-old Atascadero man. He would die from his injuries at the scene. His wife would be taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Authorities believe McDuffee was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. He’s now facing a charge of murder.
