A powerful local advocate for environmental justice and the protection of sacred Northern Chumash lands has died. Fred Harvey Collins, the leader of the Northern Chumash Tribal Council died last Friday. Friends described Collins as a passionate, kind and loving human who loved to give hugs and show off his gardening skills. He is survived by his two daughters and son. Fred Collins was 71.
