Then iconic power plant stacks that have dominated the Morro Bay Skyline since the 1950’s will be coming down. The stacks have been a part of the Morro Bay waterfront since the power plant was built. Vistra, a Texas-based company now owns the property. They plan to replace the power plant with the world’s largest battery energy storage system, pending an environmental review. The City Council voted 4 to1 to remove the stacks. Vistra now has until 2028 to remove the stacks or face a 3 million dollar fine.
