Biden Administration Pushing To Keep Diablo Open

The Diablo Canyon nuclear plant is scheduled to shut down in four years. But now according to the Tribune, the Biden administration is pushing an idea of keeping it open. In a recent interview, U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said California might want to preserve Diablo Canyon, as a source of low-carbon energy in an era of climate change. Last month scientists from Stanford and MIT also called for the plant to stay open. PG&E officials say they are committed to closing the plant while adding more renewable energy such as solar and wind power to its portfolio.
