An inmate, recently released from the San Luis Obispo County Jail, had a brief taste of freedom yesterday. Officials say 51-year-old Matthew Goldsmith had just been released when he allegedly found a gun in the jail lobby restroom. The gun belonged to a sheriff’s office civilian employee. When the gun was reported missing, a search for Goldsmith began. Officers caught up with him a short time later. He was rebooked into jail and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. An internal investigation is ongoing.
