A San Luis Obispo attorney is facing a wrongful death lawsuit. The suit stems from the June 2020 active shooter incident outside the Paso Robles Police Department that left one person dead and a Sheriff’s deputy seriously injured. Investigators believe that prior to the shooting, Mason Lira broke into the law offices of Robert Bettencourt in San Luis Obispo. That’s where he stole the firearms and ammo used to shoot and kill James Watson at a train station and deputy Nicholas Dreyfus. According to KSBY, Deputy Dreyfus, his wife, and the son of James Watson claim the weapons used were improperly locked up and were a substantial factor in causing their injuries and damages.
