The Santa Maria City Fire Department will be taking to the air to battle the use of illegal fireworks this Fourth of July weekend. The Fire Department and the City Council have teamed up to use high-altitude aircraft with GPS and high-resolution cameras to locate launch points of illicit fireworks. Anyone caught using illegal fireworks faces a 1,000-dollar fine. Officials add that the use of illegal fireworks in current conditions poses a significant threat to public safety.
