San Luis Obispo County Health officials have confirmed the first case of monkeypox in the county. The person is believed to have contracted the virus while traveling to another part of California. According to a press release, the person is isolated and is recovering well. Officials say “Monkeypox spreads through prolonged, close physical contact with someone who has symptoms or with contaminated materials like clothes or bedding,” adding that the risk to the general public remains low.
