5.1 Quake Hits Bay Area

A 5.1 magnitude rattled the Bay Area yesterday morning. The U.S. Geological Survey says the epicenter was located 12 miles east of San Jose. People reported feeling the quake as far south as Santa Cruz. The California Office of Emergency Services says close to 100,000 residents received advance notifications before shaking started through the state’s earthquake early warning system. The advance notice varied from two seconds for those very near the epicenter to 18 seconds for those in San Francisco.
