Cal Poly’s Center for Coastal Marine Sciences held its first open house since the pandemic. The event was held at the Cal Poly Pier in Avila Beach on Saturday. More than 1400 people enjoyed touch tanks full of live sea urchins, hermit crabs, and other ocean creatures. The 3100-foot-long pier was donated to Cal Poly’s Marine Sciences program in 2001 and supports a variety of field research projects.
