PG&E has taken the first steps to keep the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant running. Officials filed papers with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to renew the plant’s operating licenses. Renewed licenses would allow PG&E To operate the plant beyond a scheduled decommission date in 2025. The plant currently provides nine-percent of California’s total electricity supply.
