A Santa Maria man was sentenced this week for his involvement in a fatal DUI Crash in 2019. Last month, 31-year-old Javier Cortez pleaded guilty to second-degree murder plus driving under the influence causing great bodily injury. Prosecutors say he made deliberate actions and decisions to drive while drunk, speed and run a red light. Ultimately killing 17-year-old Madison Coleman, and 20-year-old Monica Gonzalez, both of Atascadero. Cortes was sentenced to six years in prison followed by a 15 years to life sentence.
