Santa Maria Firefighters responded to reports of a house on Friday. It happened on the 1600 block of Gunderson. When they arrived, crews found heavy fire coming from one unit, extending into the attic. The flames destroyed one home and moderately damaged a unit next door. No one was injured, but a family dog died. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
