Cal Fire is planning a large-scale prescribed burn for next month. The plan is to burn off more than 100 acres of wildfire fuel in the area of Thousand Hills Road just east of the Pismo Preserve. Officials say the burn will help prevent scenes like the Avila Fire that threatened hundreds of Shell Beach homes in 2020. Notices will be given at least three days before any burning begins.
