Atascadero Police arrested a man yesterday afternoon after he allegedly held officers at bay with “a 5-foot stick.” Officers answered a call of a possible assault on Morro Road. When they arrived, witnesses said the suspect had picked up a 2×4 and entered an abandoned building. 59-year-old Gary Staub refused to communicate with officers. He dropped the 2×4 and picked up a 5-foot-long piece of wood. Officers used a sheriff’s K-9 unit and a taser during the arrest. He was treated for his injuries, then booked into County Jail.
