A Guadalupe police officer will not be facing criminal charges after accidentally killing a bystander in August 2021. Following a months-long investigation, The California Department of Justice determined that 59-year-old Juan Olvera-Preciado died after a bullet fired at a suspect, ricocheted off the ground, and fatally wounded him. The recently released DOJ report said the officer acted in “lawful self-defense.” Attorney General Rob Bonta has issued recommendations to the Guadalupe P.D. to reduce the risk of harming innocent bystanders.
