Cal Trans officials closed Highway 1 yesterday at the elephant seal viewing area about four miles north of San Simeon. The closure came ahead of the powerful storm system that hit the Central Coast. On New Year’s Eve the highway was closed due to rock slides. Yesterday’s closure was due to an abundance of caution. It’s unclear when officials will reopen the highway.
